Yuniel Dorticos and Mairis Briedis will meet in a high stakes bout at Plazamedia Broadcasting Center in Munich, Germany. Dorticos vs Briedis is a closed-door event with no fans in attendance and will broadcast on DAZN.

The IBF cruiserweight world champion Dorticos will defend that belt but also the vacant RING Magazine cruiserweight world title is up for grabs in this prizefight. This bout was canceled in March, it was called off in May, and the third time will be the charm this weekend.

Odds as of September 24th

Beyond the world titles at stake, this is the World Boxing Super Series final and the winner will receive the coveted Muhammad Ali Trophy.

Past winners of the Muhammad Ali Trophy include names like Callum Smith and Josh Taylor to give a couple of examples.

Yuniel Dorticos’ Path to the WBSS Finals

In order to secure his spot in the WBSS finals, Dorticos bested Mateusz Masternak by unanimous decision as well as Andrew Tabiti via tenth-round KO.

Yuniel Dorticos has captured a pair of cruiserweight world championships when he won WBA and IBF gold.

Through this tournament field, Dorticos has been underscoring why his nickname is “The KO Doctor” as he’s been able to cut a wide swath through the opposition.

To fill out the other side of the bracket, Briedis picked up a unanimous decision over Noel Mikaelian and bludgeoned Krzysztof Glowacki en route to a third-round TKO.

The Glowacki stoppage was one that seemed to come as a by-product of referee error more than anything. Briedis has a chance to refocus the narrative on his combat career and leave people talking about this pugilistic performance if he impresses against Dorticos this weekend.

Latvia's hero 🇱🇻

Mairis Briedis' semi-final was full of controversy, but he's in the final and determined to take the #AliTrophy back to Riga.

Briedis has also put together quite a few championship accolades over the years. He has claimed world cruiserweight titles with the WBC, IBO, and WBO.

These 200 pounders are heavy-handed individuals and some in the boxing community are theorizing that this bout does not go the distance. I’m actually not of that opinion and I see this one going for the full 12 rounds this fight has been scheduled for.

Dorticos vs Briedis Tale of the Tape

Dorticos VS Briedis 24-1 Record 26-1 22 Knockouts 19 6’3 Height 6’1 80″ Reach 75″ Andrew Tabiti,

Dmitry Kudryashov, Mateusz Masternak Significant Wins Marco Huck, Simon Vallily, Noel Gevor Orthodox Stance Orthodox

Dorticos’ five-inch reach advantage and his exemplary KO rate of 92-percent make him seem like a compelling underdog bet but I see Briedis leading the dance in this one.

Briedis’ last couple outings have been characterized as a tad flat by pundits and fans of the sweet science. I can see him tapping into the form that he had against Oleksandr Usyk where he impressed many in the boxing community albeit in a losing effort to Usyk.

Still though that was the lone pro loss in Briedis’ career and he gave the supremely dominant Usyk arguably his toughest career fight. The same Usyk that is still unbeaten, was the first cruiserweight to unify all of the major belts since Evander Holyfield 30 years ago and has since moved up to heavyweight after pretty thoroughly clearing out the cruiserweight ranks.

In the end, I see Mairis Briedis securing the victory here via unanimous decision when Dorticos vs Briedis goes down.

Pick: Mairis Briedis (-170)
