12.40 – Follow RacingTV On Twitter Now Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase – 2m4f

BUSTER THOMAS is a useful chaser, who has returned from a 20-month layoff in excellent form, placing in all three outings at a very similar level to this weekend’s race. He’ll love the ground and should be right in the mix.

Last year’s impressive winner of this race KEEP MOVING warmed up for this with a good fourth last time out and his fitness should be perfect, adding to that fact is that he’s only 2Ib higher than when successful twelve months ago.

Paul Nicholls’ regularly has a Saturday afternoon winner and granted a clear round, OLEG should be thereabouts with the potential to be better than his current handicap mark and he completes the trio for the opener.

Selections: BUSTER THOMAS, KEEP MOVING, OLEG

13.15 – EBF Stallions ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle – 1m7f

Paul Nicholls has found FLIC OU VOYOU an excellent chance to complete the hat-trick of wins this season. He has won both starts impressively and previously won two of his three starts at this track. His third here last season behind Edwardstone and Fiddlerontheroof is the standout piece of form on offer and he looks a class above his four rivals here with room for even more improvement. He’s a worthy favourite.

Selections: FLIC OU VOYOU

13.50 – Richard Barber Memorial Mares’ Handicap Hurdle – 2m5f

This race looks between those towards the head of the market. Nicky Henderson’s only entrant on the card SUNRISE RUBY has an excellent chance of winning again. She’s a vastly improved mare, who is only up 6Ib for her latest success which seems quite lenient given the way she won with such authority.

Paul Nicholls has a strong hand for the race and the top-weight EGLANTINE DU SEUIL makes her stable debut following wind-surgery and on the back of an absence but she kept good company last season behind the likes of Stormy Ireland and Honeysuckle. Also, she’s a Grade Two winner having won at the Cheltenham Festival so there’s a touch of class about her and she should run well here.

Harry Cobden has opted to ride CILL ANNA, who has won her last three, including over C&D one of those times. She is probably better suited to softer conditions then she’ll get this weekend but she stays well and is sure to run her race.

Selections: SUNRISE RUBY, EGLANTINE DU SEUIL, CILL ANNA

14.25 – Rising Stars’ Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) – 2m4f

A tricky little race with only the three runners going to post for this valuable contest and GRAND SANCY sets the standard. He was a very smart hurdler, who almost won on this card twelve months ago when narrowly denied in the Kingwell Hurdle. His form at this track reads excellent figures of 22112 so he clearly likes it here and is the clear top-rated at 149 which makes him the one to beat.

Jamie Snowden’s GA LAW looks the main danger in receipt of nearly one stone from the market leader. He’s won both starts over fences impressively, including at Exeter last time where he didn’t exactly jump well but still had too much class in reserve for his opponents. This race demands more, but he’s going the right way and should give the favourite plenty to think about while HURRICANE HARVEY can’t be discounted either.

Selections: GA LAW, GRAND SANCY, HURRICANE HARVEY

15.00 – Unibet Elite Hurdle (Grade 2) – 1m7f

The classy Sceau Royal returned with a bang when slamming a useful field in the Welsh Champion Hurdle under top-weight and won this race back in 2016. He gets three pounds from Solo but is rated 6Ib higher than that horse so he’s well-in here and I’d be expecting him to stamp his class on this field with everything aligned perfectly for him.

If for some reason he fails to fire, then perhaps SOLO will be the one to capitalise. I find it rather interesting Harry Cobden rides him over his stable companion Diego Du Charmil who is a useful sort, so this Grade Two winner could get back on the up having been gelded since we last saw him and having had just four runs, he’s entitled to be even better this season.

Selections: SCEAU ROYAL, SOLO

15.35 – Badger Beers Silver Trophy Handicap Chase (Listed) – 3m1f

The feature race of the day and I’m going to play two against the field at decent odds. Firstly, Alan King’s POTTERMAN, who has the right sort of profile you want for this event. He was a fairly useful hurdler but has developed into a more compact horse over fences and ran well to finish second behind Secret Investor at Chepstow last time. He’s also only 1Ib lower than when fifth in last year’s Sodexo Gold Cup at Ascot so he remains well treated and looks a decent each-way choice.

Kim Bailey has just the one runner on the card being the much improved EL PRESENTE, who showed a tenacious attitude to beat the useful Aye Up Charlie at Hereford when last seen. I was very impressed with how this seven-year-old rallied once headed given he made a bad mistake at a crucial stage and he’s only been raised 5Ib for that success so he has to come under consideration.

Selections: POTTERMAN, EL PRESENTE
