This is Todd’s fifth time entering the final round of a tournament atop the leaderboard. But following his two wins, he’s faded in the final round the past two events in which he was the 54-hole leader.

Saturday’s performance offered some worry where Todd was concerned. He scrambled his way to a one-under par 69, posting five birdies and four bogeys. Todd carded just one bogey through the first 36 holes. He set a new career-high by gaining 6.8 seven strokes on the greens over the first two rounds of play.

This marks Brendon Todd's fifth 54-hole lead/co-lead on TOUR, four of which have come this season, the most of any player in 2019-20

This is Todd’s second 54-hole lead since the PGA Tour’s return to play began. He carded a 75 in the final round of the Travellers Championship and tied for 11th. Todd has failed to break par in the final round of the last four tournaments in which he made the cut.

South Korea’s Byeong Hun An closed strongly to get within a shot of the lead. He carded four birdies on the back nine for a 66. He was four shots off the lead to start the day. If not for a double bogey on 11, he’d be the leader.

Accuracy is Byeong’s friend this week. Normally, he hits 61.11% of greens in regulation. At the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational, he’s averaging 70.37%.

Rickie Fouling Up

Twice on Saturday, Rickie Fowler found himself atop the leaderboard. Twice, he gave it back.

He two-putted from 13 feet on #12 for bogey. Fowler also bogeyed on 17 to go two-over on the back nine and drop into third spot via a one-under 69.

Fowler has gone 17 months without a win since his victory at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Best Live Value Picks at the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational

  1. Brooks Koepka (+500): The defending champ here looms large just three shots off the pace. A slow start Saturday saw him double #2 and bogey #6. Then he rattled off six birdies in eight holes between 9-16. Koepka suggested after his round that he’s striking the ball as well as he has since his win in last year’s PGA Championship. He leads the field in Strokes Gained: Approach, Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and greens in regulation (64.63%).
  2. Justin Thomas (+700): The co-second betting choice in the tournament opening odds at +1200, a win here and Thomas moves to #1 in the world rankings. He won this tournament previously in 2018. On moving day, Thomas went from 12th to fifth via a four-under par 66. Thomas shot 31 on the back nine, posting three birdies over his last four holes.
  3. Matthew Fitzpatrick (+2500): Recording four bogeys through his first 12 holes on Saturday, Fitzpatrick could’ve packed in any thoughts of victory. But he put it together on the back nine. Birdies on 14, 15, and 16 pulled him back to an even-par 70 and kept the Englishman within striking distance of the title.
